A Promising Start!

I doubt we'll get it in the USA, but I hope that a "Turbo 5" follows. Porsche proved that "Turbo" means "more."

All new Renault 5 ! Very promising !

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-20:48
Finally the production ready car !!! Some quick facts: Weight from 1360 kilos. 3 power units ... 95/120 or 150 hp. The 150 hp does a 0-62 mph in less than 8 seconds which is plenty quick for our crazy traffic. Pretty long wheelbase (around 2500 mm) and mu...

I understand why factories are doing it

 By: Derreck : February 26th, 2024-21:48
The production can be much more automated and less workers, faster and easier production etc. I understand they are being pushed by the industry, but I’m having a hard time accepting electric cars.

Very same here.

 By: amanico : February 26th, 2024-21:49

I have for a short while. It’s nice.

 By: Derreck : February 27th, 2024-16:32
Even had a friend who travelled from Portugal to Spain in one. But it is still an ordeal. In less populated areas the car had to divert from the trip in different locations to find charging stations etc.

That is very frustrating!

 By: ArmisT : February 27th, 2024-22:04

+1

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-00:21

Yes

 By: Derreck : February 28th, 2024-19:13
He told me that the car knows where are the charging stations and diverts all by itself if it needs charging but still, it’s not like stopping in a gas station for 5 minutes along the way.

Absolutely.

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-20:48

Wow that’s a long time

 By: Derreck : February 28th, 2024-19:19
It would be tiring but definitely doable in 2 days with a petrol car. I still can’t wrap my head around electric cars, in each change in car technology the products were superior to the former ones, with pure electric it seems to me that it’s still not th...

True…

 By: Derreck : March 1st, 2024-01:08

Call me nostalgic.

 By: amanico : March 1st, 2024-17:44

I drive electric since 3 years and would never go back to ICE.

 By: mrds : March 1st, 2024-14:05
In these 3 years, I used a public charger twice. Took me about 5 minutes bith times, then I had enough juice to make it home. The driving experience is far superior. No noise or vibration, more comfort, no gas stations. And way more power!

Honestly, the lack of noise is something that took me time to get accustomed to. It took away a certain dimension of connectivity with the car…

 By: ArmisT : March 2nd, 2024-02:14
like when you hear someone breathing, or a heartbeat, you know they’re alive. The same thing with the usual engine noises. But i’m better accustomed now.

I see your point and it makes sense

 By: Derreck : March 2nd, 2024-14:31
Not for me though as I live in a city center in Europe where a car for me is just a headache. Only times I use a car is when I drive to far away beaches or to mountains for skiing etc. So for me electric is still not there with ice cars yet, however I’m s...

I am with you.

 By: mrds : March 2nd, 2024-19:40
The biggest issue is that IF you need to recharge at a public charger, it requires planning and it is a headache. This needs to change. Once in every village there is a charger and you just go there or drive 5 km to the next one, then it is truly no probl...

This weekend in France ..

 By: bimbeano : March 2nd, 2024-20:44
.. in a little town ... an old Peugeot diesel parked in front of a public charger, you see this very often. Shitty people make things even worser :-(

Typically french. ;)

 By: amanico : March 2nd, 2024-22:54

🇫🇷 😄

 By: mrds : March 3rd, 2024-18:34

:)))))))))))))

 By: amanico : March 3rd, 2024-18:35

Same here ...

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-22:10
... although in my case it's not a big issue to be honest. I like driving an Electric car ... as long as I can go back to one of my other cars ;-) If I buy this R5 or the A290 ... if .... I will most certainly keep the Megane .. and the Clio off course .....

Yes, but the autonomy!

 By: amanico : February 26th, 2024-22:14

F*** autonomy :-)

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-23:34
Autonomy is 400 km ... so let's say 350 km if you drive 'normal' (slow). But you can charge from 15 to 80 % in half an hour. Off course I would not buy an EV if it was to be my one and only car.

;)

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-00:21

Me too!

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-00:21

Fun and pleasant look.

 By: hora12reborn : February 26th, 2024-21:03

That's what you need if you have to drive an EV.

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-22:11
Fun is possible ... maybe not like a petrol car. Looks ... any car can look good.

A Promising Start!

 By: Tim_M : February 26th, 2024-22:00
I doubt we'll get it in the USA, but I hope that a "Turbo 5" follows. Porsche proved that "Turbo" means "more."

I think Alpine, not Renault.

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-22:14

Alpine sure, Renault maybe.

 By: amanico : February 26th, 2024-22:15

Alpine +1

 By: Gelato Monster : February 27th, 2024-01:06

Hmmmmmm... ;)

 By: amanico : February 27th, 2024-07:04

Although IMHO

 By: Gelato Monster : February 27th, 2024-10:13
the R5T/A290 is more Renault kind of beauty and not Alpine kind of gorgeous.

Superbly put!

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-00:23

Very promising !

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-22:14
Not sure about Renault but Alpine definitely wants to go to the US ... albeit no A110 petrol and not sure about this R5. Alpine wants to build an electric A110 and a couple of bigger EV.

Looks fun …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 26th, 2024-22:57
stylish “roller-skate” perfectly suited for dealing with the urban landscape.

Urban yes ...

 By: bimbeano : February 26th, 2024-23:30
...just read the specs and top speed is limited to 150 kph ... 93 mph ... yikes. Now I honestly have to say that me doing speeds over 100 mph these days are very rare. Apart from a few exceptions ... Or maybe I should just start drinking .... more ;-) ...

Back in the day …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 27th, 2024-11:28
I enjoyed my Renault 5 Turbo as an urban “roller skate”, very effective. Times have changed and the torque provided by an electric car in the uncompromising urban environment makes a lot of sense. As for a chilled beer, sounds good to me 🍻😉 ...

Now THAT is the R5 I prefer!

 By: RabidManatee : February 27th, 2024-18:01
I remember seeing a blue one at a car show as a kid. I begged my dad to buy it but to no avail 🙁.

I can see why!

 By: RabidManatee : February 27th, 2024-21:39

👍

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 27th, 2024-21:59

Exactly my feeling....

 By: amanico : February 27th, 2024-07:59

Exactly the point...

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-00:24

New platform specially for EV use.

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:10
Apparently there is even room for a second electric motor at the rear.

Héhé ...

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:09
Modern times so only EV unfortunately .

Have you seen the new Abarth?!?!?!?!?

 By: Mary Anny : February 27th, 2024-15:25
I'm desperate because I wanted to change our 595 soon!

I have …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 27th, 2024-17:20
Seen it and driven it. It’s a good looking car but I had two problems with it. Firstly the driving position is compromised by not having sufficient space to place your left foot whilst driving, quite bazar and a design error. Secondly, it’s expensive comp...

I know and I like it a lot too!

 By: Mary Anny : February 27th, 2024-18:17
This one I could sit in. ...

One good looking car 👍

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 27th, 2024-19:08

Indeed,

 By: Mary Anny : February 27th, 2024-19:20
Although brand-loyal drivers are apparently quite angry.

The world doesn’t stand still …

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 27th, 2024-19:34
I love the nostalgia of the past and still own and enjoy cars from previous era’s. Remember that originally they were all new once.

As long as I can drive an old car...

 By: Mary Anny : February 27th, 2024-19:45
And ride my HD 883 every once in a while, I'm perfectly ok with electric cars. Use them often at work.

The HD 883 is a cool ride 😎

 By: Cpt Scarlet : February 27th, 2024-21:22

😀

 By: Mary Anny : February 27th, 2024-21:38

EV???

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-00:17

Abarth elettrica, sì!

 By: Mary Anny : February 28th, 2024-06:23

Ma che oh!

 By: amanico : February 28th, 2024-08:48

🤣🤣

 By: Mary Anny : February 28th, 2024-09:17

Yes the new Abarth looks amazing as well !

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:14
But the range is simply ridiculous. I guess with this R5 you will be able to drive at least 300 km, which means I will be able to do quite more ;-) .... and on some occasions considerably less

Hahaha!

 By: Mary Anny : February 29th, 2024-07:07
The problem of putting electric motors and batteries into tiny chassis that weren't meant for that! A bit early in my opinion.

Love the baguette basket detail

 By: Centurionone : February 27th, 2024-16:27

Super fun detail indeed !

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:08

Only electric yes !

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:08

Overall positively surprised! 👍🏻

 By: MCG (Markus) : February 27th, 2024-22:39
Especially with the weight! What I would not like is the high seating position. Ps: Drove a Megane Electric around 1/2 year ago! Driving electric cars is really cool!! It can be also engaging! But I need a longer range - especially for winter season! And ...

Cold environments.

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:23
Where I live (Flanders) we don't have cold Swiss winters. Okay, we have a few month temps around 5°C but most of the time it's between 10 and 20. I really consider buying the R5 or A290 in one or 2 years ... as a second (3rd) car. So autonomy is not that ...

7,9 seconds to 100 might seem slow these days.

 By: bimbeano : February 28th, 2024-23:30
Remember the 80ies and 90ies? We had so much fun in our fast cars ... VW GOLF GTI 16V 139 hp: 8,5 s Honda CRX V-TEC 150 hp: 7,5 s Mercedes W123 230E 136 hp: 11 s Mercedes 190 E 2.3-16 185 hp: 7,5 s Peugeot 205 1.6 GTI 115 hp: 9,1 s These were fast cars, f...

Wow what an answer!

 By: amanico : February 29th, 2024-07:30

I love it!

 By: mrds : March 1st, 2024-14:02
The first Renault in a looong time. The last one was probably the Clio 16V from when I was a young guy (and a reckless driver).

Williams

 By: bimbeano : March 3rd, 2024-18:43
Yes the 16V was epic, but not the last real fun Renault. The son of the 16V (and Williams)was the Mark 2 Clio 172 and 182. Then came the brilliant Clio 3 RS which I own since 2010. There were also a bunch of epic Meganes.

Hmmmm, your Clio!
