Do manufacturers limit international mail-order sales?

It has come to my attention that a major watch manufacturer intends soon to put in place penalties for authorized dealers who sell overseas via mail order.

Maybe I'm out of the loop on this, but I've never heard of such a practice for AD's. We're talking sales of genuine watches from "white market" dealers, often at full MSRP.

I know many of us have purchased by mail in the past, both domestically and internationally. And many dealers make this a major part of their business, sponsoring watch forums in hopes of driving exactly this kind of sale. Why else would a dealer sponsor an international forum than in hopes of bringing in out-of-geography customers? They can't just be hoping people will fly in for a visit!

I know Rolex has special protections for mail order sales into the USA. But I haven't heard of other manufacturers doing this.

What are your thoughts on this? Is it right for a manufacturer to forbid (and penalize) international mail-order sales? Is this already an accepted practice or is this something new? And what about domestic mail order sales? I understand wanting to control price and distribution, but this is insane!

It's not a new problem. Managing distribution equitably across local and global markets is difficult, crosses many industries, and it's not resolved easily. Most of the watch companies have the problem, and they all handle it differently. As PuristS we pr...

I doubt you understood PuristSPro. Sorry, but that is my personal impression based on your post(s). Best regards, Oliver

Ask your AD in your country if they ship to Japan.

If they say YES!, then, I would correct my understanding. I don['t understand why this basic concept is still being discussed here - what do you want to know? Ask any brand regional offices in your area and let us know the answers. Then we will know. Plea...

Watches are unique. It's difficult to come up . . .
