Need help on a 6542 (IV) 57

Hi

Need the help of the experts on this forum. It's a bit difficult to get literature online regarding the 6542, probably because of the rarity. Anyway, I recently came across a 6542 that is for a sale. Before taking the plunge, I want to make sure I'm getting the real deal. I know the bezel is aftermarket and a poor one at that but I don't mind getting another aftermarket one.

The serial is 362XXX. The movement is 1066 and it says IV 57 at the case back. The hands look genuine. My issue is with the dial. I can't find the "SWISS" word at the bottom. As you can see, the dial is pretty smudged so it's really tough to see.  The coronet looks a bit different from the other 6542's I've seen although this quite resembles the sample from a III or IV 59 that Nicolas posted before.

Would greatly appreciate if you guys can shed some light on this. I can get this for about $20,000. Thanks in advance.

.....to stick a geiger counter on it. I have seen some 6542s record readings of over 300 microsieverts per hour........ If that doesn't bother you, then no issue on that front.

I see

I have no idea how much is being asked. All i can say is that "IF" i had checked it's radioactivity level and was happy with that, it would need to be damn cheap for me to take it.

Got it.

I don\'t like case, back, dial and bezel!!!!the engine is good and in good condition! I\'m looking picture and by picture i don\'t like! You don\'t need geiger for that bezel!i didn\'t see carrure and maybe is not Fake like the other things!!!!!

I'm sure the bezel is not original.

The seller even said so.

I think you have your answer quite clearly.

The correct bezel for such a watch costs between $20-30k and the correct dial for such a watch also cots around 20-30k. A loose watch with the wrong dial and bezel is worth about 20k because complete Rolex 6542 go from 60k to 120k and more depending on co...

Thanks for the advice Bill.

Always good to get a 2nd opinion from the experts : ) It wasn't love at first sight when I saw this watch and I was leaning towards passing up on this and I think I'll do just that this time.

It will be extremely hard to find the parts to complete the watch.

The price by the seller is correct and fair. But .... It will be a big project. Bill

I agree.

I know a couple of sellers in HK that might have some of the parts. Will try my luck and see. If I can't find at least the dial, I'll definitely pass on this.

Dont forget the Bakelite insert is what this watch is all about.
