Wristscan for 10/2: Show us your Lume

Oct 02, 2014,08:13 AM

Application of lume has expanded quite a bit over the past few years.

We see lume on bezels, on crowns, even on lugs (on more fashionable watch brands)

Let me see your favorite application of lume!

Here is my favorite. A very traditional pick.

My Blancpain Ultrathin.

The indicies are raised, polished, and applied by hand.  Each index has a well into which superluminova has been poured in.

The luminosity is bright, as good, if not better than some of my PAMs.  Here it is indoors after a 15 sec charge outside.

The watch is a bit of an oddity designwise being an ultrathin dress watch but with a military lumed dial!

Looking forward to seeing your favorite lume choices,

Mike

OK, let's see some real lume ...

 By: nilomis : October 2nd, 2014-10:07
Team, Here are some that I took yesterday and today. 1) First a MB. Discrete and elegant, as it should be on this type of watch. 2) On a diver. So bright as it's possible or reasonable. 3) The Dark Side of the Moon. Just enough. 4) Another diver. The fish...

Very illuminating! The Dark Side of the Moon really

gives you the glow of moon light, really cool. Best, Tim

Thanks Tim ...

The lume on the AMVOX II is really cool!

The lume on the chronograph (min and hour) ...

 By: nilomis : October 2nd, 2014-16:16
Is ready something unexpected and quite cool. Thanks, Nilo

Did you also notice that the hour numbers are glowing?

 By: amanico : October 2nd, 2014-14:23
Super shot of the Amvox II! Best, Nicolas

Of course and I must add ...

 By: nilomis : October 2nd, 2014-16:19
That the "Nico JLC" strap makes this watch a winner. Thanks, Nilo

never knew the amvox disks glowed!

 By: nilomis : October 3rd, 2014-14:10
I believe that Omega set a high mark with this one. Cheers, Nilo

In terms of lume, I have one question to all manufactures ...

 By: nilomis : October 3rd, 2014-14:09
Why, considering that Super Luminova provider seems to be the same, some manufacturers have a lasting lume and others don't? I don't think that is the Luminova quantity or even the area. I guess that is something different. I understand that a more dressi...

You have different kind of luminova.

 By: amanico : October 3rd, 2014-14:11
I had this discussion with JLC which chose Superluminova " C3 " for their diving watches such as the NSA; for its super luminous properties. Best, Nicolas

Now you see it . . .

 By: Dr No : October 2nd, 2014-12:26
. . . now you don't. These pics are from my Seamaster Aqua Terra review, five years ago. A fresh image of vintage lume incoming tomorrow . . . ...

Very nice texture on the dial!

By: blomman Mr Blue : October 2nd, 2014-13:27
In the dark it reminds very much of the SM300. HAGWE Blomman

I think that little piece of lume on the date frame is

 By: mkt33 : October 2nd, 2014-16:39
an interesting detail. It is the only way to tell which way the watch is upright in the dark. HAGW, Mike

I'm sure you'll like this one . . .

Ya'll don't know me but besides being a strap whore I'm also a BIG TIME nut job for LUME, I use to collect micro divers in my earlier yrs (still do ) & they have some killer lume. I don't know if these types of pieces are excluded here but I thought I...

 By: mkt33 : October 3rd, 2014-06:16
That is an excellent shot of the lume on the Remora but that photo of the Junhans is exceptional! Amazing that microbrands can get it right but much larger companies can't Cheers, Mike

Thanks Mike

 By: William M aka Mr.Lume : October 3rd, 2014-07:41
:-) Never understood that either, but big brands have much better if not most of the micro brands are very reliable pieces, good for everyday beaters, diving & alot are very appealing to me.

You must be Nilo's twin . . .

. . . separated at birth! That's a lotta lume, Will . . .

Not sure that we get the name...

 By: pplater : October 4th, 2014-06:27
...of that second watch, William - what is it? That is a dazzling collection of lume. Forget "Mr PAM" or "Mr Micro-brand diver": you are henceforth officially "Mr Lume". Cheers, pplater.

Thanks Amigo

Good and ear-saving advice, Art!

 By: anaesdoc : October 5th, 2014-07:37
The lume of the Omega 300M series is very nice, although I never got accustomed to the "Bond Seamaster´s" hands hich look like they were cut out in the centre. But the lume is impeccable :-). My best regards anaesdoc

The two best go-to watches imho

 By: mkt33 : October 3rd, 2014-15:19
Can't go wrong with either of those two watches on any occasion. Great shots, thanks for taking time this week. I'm on about the same latitude as Austria...so I'm dealing with less and less sunlight everyday too! Not enough daytime to get everything done ...

You live closer to the equator than me!

 By: anaesdoc : October 5th, 2014-07:33
Austria is (at least a bit) closer to the equator than where I live, but I admit the advantage of these few degrees in latitude is not really recognisable. What matters more and more in winter is to make the best possible use of daylight and not to dawdle...

Thanks for your compliment, hs111!

 By: anaesdoc : October 5th, 2014-07:46
You are right: a lot of lume is apt for tool watches, but not fitting to dress watches. BTW, your riddle was too much for my modest knowledge of watches (I got 2 out of 6 watches), but a very good idea! Kind regards anaesdoc

In any case this is an argument to talk about during our next lunch at B.go Poscolle!!! Best, my dear friend massi

Point well taken, Consigliere. For a military watch, though . . .

. . . like Matt's, I'm not so sure. Ask The Duke . . . . . . which he'd rather have while flying an F-86 ;-) . . .

Objection, your honor. Non-responsive.

(But stunning!) Best, CaliforniaJed

At the contrary. Day wouldn't exist without night, no pleasure without pain...

No light without dark... You get the idea, your Honor? Rejected! Go on, please... :) Best, mon cher confrère. Nicolas

.. Next to enjoying this cool marvel, loosing oneself in the blinking splendid labyrinth, hearing the chime is the real cherry on the cake ! This piece draws one's attention ( mine every time !) like magic ! Nifty idea - no lume but chime ! Best, hs

Your watch is poetry...

...but your 'logic' is sophistry! ;-) A marvellous macro of a marvellous piece, mon cher confrère. Hopefully, one day, this very model from the great house might find a home in the Antipodes. Cheers, pplater.

Well, lawyers often think in a special way, I have to admit.

And yes, I do wish you to have it. It is so special! All the best, my dear friend. Nicolas

What a great choice...without this photo I wouldn't have even known

Is my favorite application of lume. A tad big for me but now with the special edition with the horse on the dial (my Chinese zodiac sign), I am very tempted by it ! :) Cheers Robin The Super Lumi-nova comes alive. Notice the Horse and the bridge of the ch...

Hello, Robin !.. That's an unusual lume shot !.. Like this other kind of lume distribution

I like the original release better...

 By: mkt33 : October 4th, 2014-09:50
Although I understand why MB released this version, for me the horse is a bit gimmicky. The lumed chrono counters area bit cool, now they just need to put lume on the chrono disks to complete the functionality. Best, Mike

Great theme, Mike. Here's one:

She's got great taste, even if they are a little on the dirty side!

Great photo. HAGWE, Mike PS- What is it about our wives that that they don't "take care" of the watches. Drives me crazy that I have to take hers away once a month or two just to clean it up and each time I find a new ding! :-)

How about this beauty...

There is some good detailed lume work on that dial. Wished some aspects of the dial were brighter but the fine details like the minute indices and the seconds hand is impressive. Best, Mike
