Wristscan 6-8 February - "Dial Colours"...whats your favourite?
Feb 05, 2015,08:54 AM
Dial colour..... it makes such a difference to a watch's appeal. It makes a difference to where one can wear a watch as well as how one can wear it. For instances where you want to stay under the radar, a diamond-speckled gold dial may not be the obvious choice. But what about Black Tie events.....is it gold dials or colourful red? Then again, are you the type of collector that goes tropical (Iceman...I am thinking of you here!). Dial colour is something that is a personal choice....what's your favourite? That is the theme for this week's Wristscan.
For me, it is tricky. I love variation. I bought the Reverso Rouge because I had no red dials in my collection and I found the Reverso such an attractive watch to wear. But is it my favourite?
Maybe being a Rolex collector, my favourite dial is black as it allows the vintage patina on the Rolex 16660 to really show through?
Or maybe its blue, and watching the 50 shades of blue that is the Patek 5070P allows that dial fantasy to exist.
Or...maybe i am like the Iceman..... a sucker for tropical chocolate patina....Rolex 1665

. . . my place, Richard, although it's been shut down for the last month due to a mudslide. That photo was from a few years ago, and untouched - no processing or even cropping whatsoever. Best, Art
Blue matches well my dressing style (I seldom dress anything but blue jeans!!!); A blue "rusty" GP: But sometimes I feel B&W: But blue is ... blue: But I love B&W: No matter what is the brand of watch: Someday, special over the weekends, I feel co...
This GP was offered to me twice. First time, I pass and I regret. Weeks after, I could fix this mistake and I got this GP chronograph with this amazing state. Got it, and it's here to stay. Just this one. No more. I'm with my focus on the trio: Omega/JLC/...
That is one of the few Rolex I could image on my wrist. It is so funny and different with the green rim of the sapphire and the "flashy" second hand. Have a great weekend, Martin
The blue one with the circuit (at least that is what I take it for) printed on the dial please. It takes something to paint an electronic circuit onto the dial of a mechanical watch :-) Have a great weekend, Martin
Hi I have to say I find Blue dials really attractive. At their best they can be stunning and they also seem to be to be unexpected. Poljot alarm - fab blue dial Cheers JML ...
As someone once said, "A pedant is only someone who likes his facts to be correct..." :-) A very tidy pair of watches you have there: covers all of the bases very nicely. Cheers, pplater.
pedant is a synonym of....purist? :) I'm glad you chose to see it not as anal-retentive. ;) Thank you for your kind comment about my watches. HAGWE Regards Edward
which one of these two watches I like better. The black Lange is superb but the more lively Patek Philippe not less. Have a great weekend, Fernando, Martin
Salmon dials like the one of the Santos Dumont were for long my favourite choice, but I really like now this new beige dial by Rolex, what's called White Grape. The Rouge Reverso by JLC is amazing too. In general I find coloured dials very attractive. ...
but this week, grey is also the "in" color for me. And may I state that that 5070P is stunning! I just love that dial and how it plays with its surrounding light! White is always my preference over any color. Grey has made its mark this week....let's see ...

:) We would need 'Orangdial' to contribute as he has amazing images... this is the best I can do for now ;) excuse the bad quality! HAGWE, Sebastian ...
This particular watch is in the collection for its dial alone, and it is easily the most rich and colourful dial in the watchbox. It is indeed a favourite. It was terrific and timely to see two of its siblings feature in the marvellous GTG report which ...
Yes, you can and must take all the credit (blame!) for both of those Habrings being in the watchbox: a wonderful throw back to our little "Independents Day" (and night; and morning...) gathering. Surely it's time for you to head South again - if only to s...
... of the white dials and the shining deep colors that surround them on the JD. Ornaments like these are normally not my cup of tea on watches but this one looks great! Also like the red Habring² dial very much. Thank you for showing and have a great wee...
Under the onslaught of the paillons and the enamel, people tend to forget the 'negative space' of the white dials. But for that, though, the watch would be very difficult to wear. Enjoy your weekend. Cheers, pplater.
I'm of course a big fan of GF but the new Vision is not Greubel-y enough for me to consider sawing off the other arm to get one. Otherwise all continues apace on this end! Sending you a PM/email on a topic we've discussed previously... Best, Gary
... gives top photogenic light and backdrop. And that is what is needed for your thrilling selection of top beauties! Thank you and have a great weekend, Martin
since 1990 when it went flat like a MUT, ......when it changed.....ownership! However, the Real McCoy is still there, Sumptuous, Supreme, Elegant, Charming.........and, hasn't changed ownership....yet;) Cheers Pplater Francois
.. but I am trying to work on that.. But so much of other temptations, also ! So, the UTT & Duo à Chronograph, & for me the QL are still waiting.. Best & HAGWE, hs
to make a decision, however I did a count and then there is a slight win of white/silver/beige over black dials. However, if I split the count into white, silver and beige then black is the winner by numbers. But then I also like blue...no, I cannot decid...
the Vintage 45 Chrono, Ref 2599 in WG with Salmon dial for example...or more affordabke the Steel, small seconds Vintage 45...OR... the Traveller II with Salmon dial.
My favourite dial colour? Hard to tell. When I started with watches I had a preference for black dials. Readability of white hands on a clean black dial is just unbeatable: Then I noticed that it got a little too monochromatic in my watch box. And even th...
you are too kind. However the truth is that Baron gave me a lesson on how to take a shot of the Red in the opening post of this thread :-) Thank you anyway, my friend, Martin
And instead of a lot of words it just took you the one picture at the start of this thread to express it all. Thank you very much for your kind words, Martin
It is hard to resist it in the metal. I had seen in in pictured before and was not sure what to think about it. Until I saw it in the real.......... Thank you and have a great weekend, Martin
This one for me is like Trooping the Colors: .. So let me see, if these collage chips are ok ! To make it simple: - My first dial choice is black: it's versatile & offers great contrasts The surrounding colors of indices, hands & background bring it to li...

.. Again, I was asked by my dear wife, to be the electronic " postman" again this week, with my account: ========== rws' chips===== Shades of gold.. Nice to go out.. My first Vintage JLC: E159 with greenish appeal They say: one is not enough.. Thus, black...

... little watch. Yes, it is from the 1960´s, circa 1964 to be more precise. It is a reference 9659 which was referred on the Rolex catalogs of as the "Elegant Watch" model. It has a manual wind movement caliber 1210 with 17 jewels. Case is 18K gold with ...
Thanks for the details, history and background on this, Abel. This picture looks really nice, and the watch with its profile no less stunning - makes me wonder why Rolex didn't keep producing these very nice models as I'm certain they would have made more...
.. what a splendid line-up ! - a full color box ! Liked all of them & share the YM - a low key, almost noble touch ! Very well done ! Bravo !! Best, hs

That is a great question, and it depends upon the case metal. My choice is typically white, rather than the cream enamel Peter has used in his initial production Piccadilly watches. I have to say though that the WG case lends itself quite well to cream en...
I don't think I have a favorite, it depends on the watch and the style of the watch I'm looking for. But I think I'll try to answer with my 5712 as it really looks very nice comparing to many dials I saw. Have a great week end :) Cheers, Mark ...
