Very! Also, in a very dry weather a diver watch is a good option too...

Nov 13, 2015,06:58 AM

I'm living in the north of the Patagonia, a very dry place. Dust is everywhere, so a diver watch it's great, no only because dust can't get in the watch, but because you can wash the watch.

WristScan 11/13/2015 starts now. Theme: Anything but Swiss

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-08:52
This Habring2 has been my daily wear for the past month. Made in Austria. I think Richard and Maria are even more "independent" today than they were when the watch was first purchased in 2013. It is as good, if not better, than any Swiss watch I own in te...

I can play with only one watch...

 By: amanico : November 12th, 2015-09:08
The evidence is written on the dial... ...

So cool! [nt]

I was somehow certain

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-11:28
That it would be a Made in France Jaeger with you, Nico Lovely piece. A Valjoux 72 movement?

Wait... Here.

Indeed this was a surprise one. I really thought you would have gone "German" HAGWE, Mike

Aahhh !.. The Panda dial, Love that black on white !.. Clean but pretty cool ! ..

Saturday night I will ne in NYC to see "Lulu" at the Metropolitan Opera House. This seems to be an appropriately Teutonic watch to wear. Have a great weekend, all! ...

Ja, Herr Nicolas.

 By: TheMadDruid : November 12th, 2015-11:04
Guten Abend.

Of course! ;;-)) [nt]

 By: amanico : November 12th, 2015-14:08

Saxonian, more like

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-11:34
With a hint of German baroque and lots of Saxonian warmth. Where a Zeitwerk would be pure Prussia, this is definitely much more representative of where it comes from

There is definitely some warmth, and even richness, to it.

 By: TheMadDruid : November 12th, 2015-14:06
So Baroque...perhaps. Now then, is it appropriate for "Lulu"? The opera is rich, but harsh.

Here I will have to pass

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-23:49
Not having seen it yet

??? [nt]

 By: TheMadDruid : November 13th, 2015-05:14

There's only one Lulu . . .

 By: Dr No : November 13th, 2015-11:30
. . . that I know of . . . Lulu is no lemon . . . and she's more pop than opera ;-) . . .

Will you introduce me to her? [nt]

 By: TheMadDruid : November 15th, 2015-13:02

Classically German and easily takes down 99% of its Swiss counterparts

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-17:55
Have a good time at the Opera House and thanks for sharing, Mike

Oh, I was sooo close to purchasing the Foudroyante

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-18:00

Let me play ...

 By: nilomis : November 12th, 2015-11:06
Great theme that should remind us that there are great watches outside Swiss. 1) German made, Sinn U1 Classic near indestructible diver. Oh, the Germans also have "some" nice cars. I'm more addicted to Audi than any other (car or not) brand. Love to play ...

The Athaya is really special

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-11:41
Never even knew that there were watches made in Indonesia - and interesting ones at that. Thanks for sharing! Btw are they only available in Indonesia?

They are available ...

Worldwide. Got mine thru Internet, after seeing a review elsewhere. Google "Athaya Vintage" and ... bingo. Cheers, Nilo

Thank you so much!

with Love HAGWE D ...

And a Leo2? ;)

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-12:45
You just reminded me that I have a similar one somewhere. Unworn for a long time, would need to look for it first. Likewise a Poljot Kamov KA-50 hand wound one that needs a watchmaker\'s attention...

Good eye Leo2 indeed ;) [nt]

 By: Ares501 - Mr Green : November 12th, 2015-12:51

2A5 or 2A6 if I am not mistaken

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-13:12
But a German rebuild rather than brand new, as it appears that it still has the old main gun - 44 calibre, IIRC as opposed to the longer ones for new production.

;)))) [nt]

This Seiko SRP641. Since I have it, I love more and more Seiko brand. Great theme, by the way, Best regards, This message has been edited by Grasso on 2015-11-12 13:31:12 ...

Nice pick up!

Seikos are most addicting...Just ask the other Mod named "Mike"

Seiko is tough to beat . . .

 By: Dr No : November 13th, 2015-11:59
. . . as a value proposition. Between these two, I've laid out more for concert tickets, and that includes the custom shark skin straps. Art ...

That's a really cool picture!

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-23:56
So not only a diver in the conventional sense but also one for deep dives into more academic waters?

Very! Also, in a very dry weather a diver watch is a good option too...

 By: Grasso : November 13th, 2015-06:58
I'm living in the north of the Patagonia, a very dry place. Dust is everywhere, so a diver watch it's great, no only because dust can't get in the watch, but because you can wash the watch.

So rugged is the name of the game :)

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-07:04
Thanks for the explanation - the fit is then even more appropriate.

This is an independent watchmaker who are well appreciated here Mike

By: Mark in Paris : November 12th, 2015-13:48
For me, the only non-Swiss watch I own is coming from the United States, beginning of the 20th century. Have a nice week-end everyone. Cheers, Mark ...

Very cool, Mark! [nt]

I like this old cool look indeed. Family watches...

Love the decorations, especially that photo of the regulator.

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-18:45
They definately don't make it like they used to...now that was old school craftsmanship. Thanks for sharing, Mike

Thanks Mike

By: Mark in Paris : November 13th, 2015-06:49
Indeed it was another kind of decoration. It would need a little cleaning but still looks nice Cheers, Mark

Thank you, I should make better one one day

By: Mark in Paris : November 13th, 2015-06:50
even if we will see more the fact it really needs an overhaul Cheers, Mark

Now if you managed a wrist shot...

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-07:02
That would be an instant winner

I owned an American watch once . . .

 By: Dr No : November 13th, 2015-12:08
. . . for somewhat less than a year. It was the source of no small amount of pride, almost entirely on account of the spectacular mid-century Hamilton pocket watch movement . . . . . . but sadly I was never able to bond with it. Gone, but not forgotten. ...

Intangibles, mostly. The juxtaposition . . .

 By: Dr No : November 13th, 2015-13:07
. . . between relatively austere dial and florid script, and especially, the highly polished unremarkable case, just didn't do justice to the exquisite movement. Had the design been more to my tastes, it would've been a keeper. Art

Thanks for clarifying

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-23:40
Can understand where you are coming from.

The RGM 222 has charms . . .

 By: Dr No : November 14th, 2015-10:10
. . . in much the same manner as late '50s American automotive design. There's a certain crassness that imparts character; fine for some, but not on my wrist. Art

That is a colourful way of putting it

 By: KMII : November 14th, 2015-12:29
And it definitely ensures instant understanding

The wheels work seems very nice from your picture

By: Mark in Paris : November 13th, 2015-15:04
Americans don't seem to have a high-end watchmaking industry do they? I think they could do as great as any European.

Any pretense to industry is long gone, Mark . . .

 By: Dr No : November 14th, 2015-19:16
. . . but there are a few practitioners of the art . . . The last American? . . . still toiling in the fields. Best, Art

Believe it or not, I saw that thread on HoMe . . .

 By: Dr No : November 14th, 2015-19:36
. . . after posting the KM video here on WS! Synchronicity . . .

I remember when you purchased it and I was equally surprised when it left your collection quickly. Actually saved me from purchasing one sight unseen because

 By: mkt33 : November 14th, 2015-19:22
your actions led me to make sure I saw it in the metal before I made my decision. The feel of the winding made me not purchase the sample I saw. Cheers, Mike

A movement does not . . .

 By: Dr No : November 14th, 2015-19:52
. . . a watch make. Glad you were able to benefit from my experience, Mike. Best, Art

On the road again

 By: cazalea : November 12th, 2015-13:54
Definitely not Swiss ...

It is always interesting to see which Seiko

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-18:47
you are wearing. Original or custom strap? Best, Mike

Custom strap

 By: cazalea : November 12th, 2015-19:12
I put it on the first day the watch arrived to tide me over til I got the bracelet adjusted. Which was never ... :-( and I like this strap so maybe I never will put it on Mike

Interesting Seiko

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-23:59
I do not think I have seen pictures of this one before - goes almost as well with your Elan as the GMT GS

Another non-Swiss in the stable.

I didn't know. Thanks! [nt]

Inspired by England, powered and assembled by Swiss

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-18:53
Their recent models with Johannes Jahnke movements are really something. Best, Mike

The little Swiss Made sign at the bottom should best be covered, then ;)

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-00:03
Nice one, though. I feel they have been getting better and better over the years. What has been your experience with it so far?

They keep much better time than they are promising.

 By: TheMadDruid : November 13th, 2015-06:33
Specs say +/- 20/day. My experience is less than a minute off in a week. Pretty good looking and very, very inexpensive.

Apologies!

 By: TheMadDruid : November 15th, 2015-13:04
This is not an "English" watch. I was uninformed. Truly Swiss. My mistake.

No worries :)

 By: KMII : November 15th, 2015-13:18
There are quite some aspects that are not Swiss, so it still counts.

Japanese partners.

Beautiful Dornbluth Regulator. Love those hands and the traditional "hours at six" layout.

 By: mkt33 : November 12th, 2015-18:57
that stingray strap really makes it though. Best, Mike

Agree on the stingray

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-00:07
The watch is cool to start with - and it seems Saxony is currently leading when it comes to German horology here - but the strap really completes it.

Dornblüth! Cool.

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 13th, 2015-11:38
My appreciation is growing and growing for this brand.

Long-term fan of Dornblüth . . .

. . . here, Nino. I was close to ordering an 04.0 when they were in production; never did, much to my regret. Here's a photo of a friend's example . . . . . . draped on my wrist. Wistfully, Art ...

A real beauty this Dornie,

 By: ninolitaliano : November 15th, 2015-10:43
I find that the blue of the dial is perfectly emphasized by the bronze of the stature

Tried some on today

 By: KMII : November 15th, 2015-10:57
And was quite impressed - will post some pics tomorrow.

Had the opportunity to try that one on today

And speak to the \'Sohn\'. Great watch and what a pleasant character. Definitely got much higher up my want to have list!

The SRP is just sublime!

A classic per excellence

Lovely watch! [nt]

Nice, nice nice.

 By: cazalea : November 13th, 2015-08:28
I was just looking at one of these that\'s for sale. But would it be redundant since I have the black/red version? I sure like the blue/gold combo Mike ...

I just rotated off my Habring, so I'm going with a different country

 By: rnaden : November 12th, 2015-18:50
Germany this time...starting today, this will be my rotation. The GO Panoinverse...it is about as un-Swiss as it gets in terms of look and feel, although it is Swiss owned. ...

Wonderful, how you caught the light on the GO

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-00:11
And the Habring is - as always - a gem. Let's say something that enlivens every train journey?

Enliven puts it mildly..

 By: rnaden : November 13th, 2015-02:41
A very hypnotic watch for sure

Everyone has posted Habring so I will switch to German

At least there will be an appreciative home for your collection in a couple of years ;)

 By: KMII : November 13th, 2015-00:28
It is nice to see that he is starting early.

Surely you will help him along on the journey :)

 By: KMII : November 14th, 2015-09:55
Seems like he\'s had a great start already!

Wow... That's a cool gathering Joe.

What would I choose... hmmmm Maybe the Emil Lange. I love the Zeitwerk too for its movement and very unique hour display. The black dial of the Cabaret is so charming and the Dato is quite an iconic chrono. Congratz! Cheers, Mark

Had to go to my old photo files...

 By: shortys home : November 12th, 2015-21:54
... and the one I picked is probably an all too easy choice for the non-swiss theme - anyway, here we go: Do I regret having sold this one? You bet! Have a great weekend. Henrik ...

Lovely Lange! [nt]

 By: crown comfort : November 13th, 2015-02:28

Sorry to have picked a theme that could not be accomodate everyone.

 By: mkt33 : November 13th, 2015-07:03
Miss seeing your contribution but perhaps there are a few examples that will inspire you to pick up a non swiss piece? Cheers, Mike

the stacks a bit small, but I am thinking of adding to it. I think the bug of JDM Seiko has definitely struck Cheers JML

Mix'n'match

 By: KMII : November 12th, 2015-23:46
While the natural choice for this would be one of the Grand Seiko's, someone here (wink, wink) gave me a wonderful alternative idea... So let's start with the 'Orient is Red' variety You can see that there has been some hard use at 'the front' the watch a...

Thanks!

 By: KMII : November 14th, 2015-04:13
Yes, the Poljot is definitely unlike any non-Russian watch I have. And I think you cannot get much more opposed watches than the GS and the Poljot

How about a.....

Awesome Credor

Entry 1: indeed something German

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : November 13th, 2015-08:09
And something new, black and cool. #187 is the Californian Penal Code for murder. So that\'s kind of fitting for this sinister Friday the 13th! ...

187...that Lange is to die for :-)

 By: Ubik : November 13th, 2015-08:31
Always liked the history packed into this watch. French military issued, movement and case by the German company Hanhart which had been given to France as a war reparation payment. Everything I like in a military chrono, clean lines and a coin edge bezel....

Since it's SalonQP...I go with a Roger Smith and a Peter Speake Marin.

 By: Hororgasm : November 13th, 2015-10:42
And congrats especially to Roger for the successful launch of the Series 4. I can't wait to land my hands on one. Seen here my Roger Smith Series 3 set against the Singapore Flyer and Formula One pit building in the background, and my trusty Peter Speake ...

2 rare pieces indeed

Good to see 2 German luxury brands next to one another. Probably what the Richemont execs thought when they decided to hand stewardship of Minerva over to Montblanc! Have a great weekend

Thanks Mike!

Hi Stefan, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well represented Habring is on this week's wristscan.

I would have thought some other independents would have been more popular. Here's to wishing you a Habring in your future. Best, Mike

Sinn U1 limited edition. Day time Sinn U1000 Seiko and Cressi ...

Yes - although contemporary German submarines tend not to dive too deeply

 By: KMII : November 14th, 2015-11:17
None of the titanium hulls and ultra impressive depth ratings. But the Sinn watches are great irrespective AFAIK the Bremont cases are much tougher, though.

Now something Dutch: Christiaan van Der Klaauw
