When I acquired the watch , l learned the following (text from Mathis time) When Jacques Piccard and Don Walsh
descended in the submarine Trieste to the 10.000 meter/35.000 ft depth at the
Mariana Trench in 1960 they had a Rolex strapped to the outside of the
submarine, but on his wrist Don Walsh had the Jeanrichard Aquastar 60,
manufactured 1958-62 and designed by Frédéric Robert (later the founder of the
Aquastar brand and creator of several Seamaster divers and chronographs at
Omega).
The watch for sale is from the first
generation, probably from 1958 or 1959, distinguished by the AS 1581 movement
(later versions had AS 1701), a two piece caseback and a bezel with an extra
large tritium dot.
