Everyone
please excuse me, as this is my first time judging. As you all know,
if you look at my photo gallery, I mainly post wrist scans. So I am a
bit out of my normal element here. I am also not really good at vintage
pieces, having owning exactly zero, but I still hope to gain more
insight through everyone's posts in this area.
This
week was an incredible week of a huge number of static photos, as can
be expected given the topic. I did not post many responses this week
since Nilo asked me to judge. And I really did not read any of the
responses until I had made up my mind.
In
order to be fair, given the complexity, I saved the array of pix to my
photo file so I could look at all of them continuously without any
barriers. To be honest I had 15 in the set that I chose to consider as
the winner. That is a huge number for a single week. I cannot imagine
the task of the mods when they choose an annual winner.
I
feel it is really important to acknowledge those 15, as in my mind I
could have chosen any of them. I felt they all were first class and
worthy of a win. But I narrowed it down based upon true collectibles.
That was my first criteria.
So, pardon the length, but these are in order of their posts, for the most part, and do not represent one over another
The Honorable Mentions:
My appreciation for the quality of the composition and beauty
Nilo, the Gear teeth pix. I loved the composition, and the gear teeth related to me mechanically.
Art,
his first pix of two cue balls, the GO, the cues and the differentiator
of the colors of the table cloth contrasted by the bumper cloth.
Blomman,
many entries this week, but the first with the Lemania, the cue ball
with red dots and the nine ball rack. Just perfect layout. Second
mention to the toy train pix.
Mark, the Geisha balls had just great color contrasted with the gray metal and the watch colors. Just fabulous.
Blomman versus Nicolas and the chess match. What a collection each has!
Matt S, the divers compass and Blancpain. The worn out strap kept on tugging at me in the pix.
Henrik's VC OS. I am a sucker for VC, as everyone knows, I love the slate dial and the toy colors
Cazalea,
his first static. The GO in the lower right showing the moon phase
color matching perfectly with the art, especially the stars.
Baron, the a Rolex with black knife. The handle of the knife focus caught my eye.
Blomman
again with the Bleu Reverso and the shaving knife. Simple, clean, just
a great photo. Also, since I own this piece too, I am biased.
Finally,
Raymond S, the GO pano inverse looks fab with that speaker, as wall as
the Patek white dial and SS matching the speaker. Both great
compositions.
OK, now the top prizes.
The winners, for me, met the theme exactly, using very real collectibles.
Third place
Crown Comfort
The
girl, looking back to the watch. I like the art to begin with. The
watch is positioned perfectly so that the gaze of the girl is looking at
the watch. Her left coat sleeve is raised just enough so that I could
visualize her wearing the watch on that wrist. This is just a fabulous
composition by CC.
Second Place
Thevenin
The
Pepsi Rolex is lit so perfectly. And the focus is razor sharp so that
your eye is drawn to the watch. But the colors of the knife are so
perfect to match the theme. And I really like this version of the
bracelet.
Winner
HSIII
For
me, the tie breaker between second and first was the watch itself. I
just adore HS's Breguet. I know I comment to him all the time. The
driving force for me in this pix is the lighting. It is just a killer.
The eyes glow matching the watch glow of the crystal. The strap is just
a perfect complement to the mask in color. The photo is well
balanced.
Congrats to all of the above, as I
tried to communicate how much all of them moved me this week. This was a
well played week and a great theme.

Unquote
IMHO a perfect judgement by Joe. HS picture is a true killer shot.
Congratulations to all participants of this very exciting weekend.
Cheers,
Nilo
