. . . you allow only slide rules for your students! Or, at least give those who do use them extra points.
Pocket calculators first came onto the scene during my senior year in high school, '73 - '74. I remember a few students that had them; the price was something like $150, which was a ton of money back then. Even now, I can recall my impression after using one for the first time: life will be easier, but before long, no one will be able to figure problems out on their own.
