... as many of my same age friends were in those far days. I keep remembering him so well now!
As you may understand Andrew, living in Argentina it was easy to catch the contagious fanatism of our car race lovers for our Numero Uno Hero!
But Fangio was not only a notable driver in those far times (1940´s/1950´s) but also a gentleman both in and out the race tracks, and a great persona. And that made of him a character to follow and imitate.
Born in 1911, he died in 1995, after being 5 times F1 Champion. His life was colorful and full of great stories, including a kidnapping by Castro followers during a visit to Cuba for a race. It is well known his connection with both Ferrari and Maserati. He was also Honorary President of Mercedes Benz in Argentina, for many years.
Being a Fangio fan, I couldn´t let pass the opportunity of getting an example of the Tag Heuer Targa Florio, in the special limited edition of 200 pieces made specially for sale in Argentina. This differs from the regular version offered World wide, in not having the facsimil of Fangio´s signature on dial, and being equipped with a plexi.
I feel this is a charming vintage looking timepice, both sporty and ellegant, which reflects the spirit of the Big Champion Fangio was in life.
Have a Great Week End my dear friends!!
Kind regards, Abel.
