. . . that's been told a few times in the past, but worth repeating within the context of this thread.
Many moons ago, one of my acquaintances was a motorcycle mechanic who had moved to LA from Buffalo in 1980, the year of Steve's death. His first jobs were at two motorcycle repair establishments, and the owners of both told him essentially the same tale. McQueen had been flagged as a notorious cheapskate and often refused to pay his bills in full. Shortly after the public learned of his diagnosis with cancer, he visited both shops and paid every cent he owed, in some cases for work performed years prior.
With all his flaws, he was a fundamentally decent man.
