This is not my most expensive or a gift from a family member.
But it's the first "real" watch I bought after catching the bug. It motivated me to get to Switzerland, and to meet Kurt Klaus, who said "Yah, we built this so you could swim with it - I hope you go in the ocean, eh?" Before this watch, I never imagined there were actual people behind a product who you could meet and talk with.
Sorry, Kurt, not quite swimming, but on some salty rocks - does that count?
Its need for a minor repair re-introduced me to Ken, a long-time-ago bike pal who'd become a watch repairman. And it led to me sitting at his side for 4 years, one day a week - to learn the ways of the watchmaker. Which eventually turned into me buying all his parts and equipment when he retired, and giving him and his family sanctuary when raging California wildfires burnt half his mountain property (ash on the car, 50 miles from the fires).
And I guess it motivated me to try to take more creative pictures of watches.
And it's convenient - you don't need to look at the date of the photo - the watch tells you when it was taken.
