. . . but for the most part, Longines chronographs were successful aesthetically as watches per se. With practically every other manufacturer from the golden age, including my favorite, Omega, chronos come across as timekeepers with a special purpose. Uniquely, Longines designs were, imho, watches first, and chronographs, second.
