. . . ebay a few years ago from a seller who was unaware of the rarity of her estate find.

The crystal and bezel are absent, but beyond that, this 30T2rg appears totally correct to my eyes. The seller stumbled upon this at an estate sale; none of her other listings had anything to do with watches.
I placed what I thought was a high bid, only to be outdone at almost double my offer. It might've been impossible to restore this one to original condition, but an enterprising watchmaker could've salvaged it; alternately, it would've been valuable just for the parts alone.
They're out there, my friend - hunting chronometers is always in season!
